PHILCONGENLA HOSTS SPECIAL SCREENING OF

FORGOTTEN ISLAND FOR THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles hosted a special block screening of DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island for members of the diplomatic corps and institutional partners in Los Angeles on 6 October 2026 at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

Among those in attendance were Consul General Dr. Srinivasa Kotehal Jayadevappa of India, Consul General Sompop Sermswatsri of Thailand, Consul General Win Lei Phyu of Myanmar, and Minister Counsellor Dewi Ratna Asih of Indonesia, together with other representatives of consular missions and institutional partners.

The guests were welcomed by Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz, reaffirming the Consulate General’s support for projects that showcase Philippine culture and creative talent internationally. The screening also highlighted the growing presence of Philippine influences in mainstream entertainment.

Inspired by Philippine folklore and mythology, Forgotten Island brings these traditions to the screen through an animated adventure celebrating friendship, family, and stories passed down across generations. Its voice cast includes H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, and Jo Koy, while Quezon City-based Snipple Animation Studios contributed hand-drawn animation sequences to the production.

The screening complemented the Consulate General’s Filipino American History Month programming, including its ongoing banner exhibit, LORE: A Filipino American Story – Weaving Culture Beyond Borders, which explores how Philippine folklore, weaving traditions, and indigenous heritage continue to find expression in the United States.
