The City of Carson kicks off Filipino American History Month on October 6, 2018, from 9am to 12pm at the Carson Community Center. Refreshments are available before the event starts (8am to 9am).
The celebration officially begins with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Carson International Sculpture Garden, Dr. Jose P. Rizal Monument, by the East Parking Lot of the Community Center. Program follows at Carson Dominguez Room, which includes the 2018 Filipino American History Month Leadership Awards Ceremony. This year’s honorees are Florante Ibañez, Roselyn Ibañez, Arturo Garcia, Paolo Roca, Theo Leuterio, LCDR Edgar Labao (ret), and Deputy Melvin Castro.
Keynote speaker is Dr. Mary Talusan-Lacanlale, professor of Asian Pacific Studies at CSU Dominguez Hills, Carson.
Headliners are veteran performers Fe de los Reyes and Miguel Vera, with performances from CSU Long Beach PAC, Shane Selloria, Jason Farol, Shekinah Austria, Charishma Marquez, Therese Masangcay and the Kindreds of Carson.
